Our internship program is designed to meet university and ACS standards, offering structured weekly supervision with a licensed site supervisor. Interns gain hands‑on experience working with a diverse population, emphasizing trauma‑informed care, culturally responsive practice, and clinical documentation, while also learning billing compliance and CPT coding. Beyond direct client work, interns engage in structured professional development that includes collaborating on trauma‑informed psychoeducation packets, contributing to culturally responsive group projects, and refining documentation practices aligned with ACS and university standards — unique opportunities that integrate clinical training with professional scholarship. These opportunities allow interns to integrate clinical skills with scholarship, compliance, and creative resource development — preparing them for licensure and long‑term success in the field.
I Witness Counseling offers:
1. Structured Supervision
- Interns receive weekly, structured supervision with a licensed site supervisor (LPC, LMHC, ACS eligible) with feedback on clinical reasoning and ethical decision‑making.
- Modeling of professional boundaries and reflective practice.
- Guidance on self‑care strategies and managing vicarious trauma.
- Supervision follows university and ACS standards, ensuring hours are documented and competencies tracked.
From Classroom to Competence: I Witness Counseling Provides Supervision That Bridges the Gap. Our supervision is grounded in the ethical standard of ‘do no harm,’ ensuring that every clinical decision prioritizes client safety, dignity, and well‑being.
2. Documentation & Clinical Training
- Interns will learn neutral, defensible documentation practices.
- Hands‑on training in CPT codes, modifiers, and billing processes (various insurance network specifics).
- Understanding of insurance authorizations, EAP claims, and compliance standards.
- Exposure to telehealth protocols and HIPAA‑aligned documentation systems.
- Familiarity with licensure requirements and Counseling Compact updates.
They’ll gain hands‑on training in case conceptualization, clinical reasoning, CPT coding, HIPAA compliance, and ethical standards — skills universities value highly.
3. Trauma‑Informed & Culturally Responsive
- Interns are trained in trauma psychoeducation, strengths‑based language, and cultural responsiveness, aligning with best practices and accreditation standards.
- Interns will gain knowledge and professional guidance from a specialized CCTP-II level clinician.
